Stanley Crossland, 51, Killed in Hit-and-Run on 5 Freeway Near Mercy Springs Road
MERCED COUNTY (November 13, 2019) – A man was killed after an alleged hit-and-run accident along the 5 Freeway near Los Banos Monday night.
The California Highway Patrol identified the deceased victim as 51-year-old Stanley Crossland, a resident of Santa Rosa.
CHP said the incident began when Crossland was driving a pickup truck towing a flatbed trailer on the 5 freeway. For an unknown reason, the left rear tire of the trailer blew.

According to reports by The Mercury News and ABC 30 News, Crossland then pulled over just before Mercey Springs Road. He was apparently changing the tire when a vehicle struck him.
Paramedics responded to the crash site, found Crossland dead at the right side of the southbound lane of the freeway. The fatal collision occurred on November 11 at around 8:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, officials affirmed that the driver who hit the pedestrian did not stop to render aid and took off. The tragic incident remains under investigation.
