Stanley Isaacs Killed Laguna Beach Pedestrian Accident on South Coast Highway Fatal Hit-and-run Crash in Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (August 16, 2022) — Stanley Isaacs, 60, of Costa Mesa died, and his wife was injured Thursday in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on South Coast Highway at Pearl Street in Laguna Beach.

Paramedics transported both the man and his 60-year-old wife to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.  He later died at the hospital and his wife was released that same night.

The deadly crash occurred in a lighted crosswalk at 9:38 p.m. on Thursday, August 12th, according to a report by the Orange County Register.

HIT AND RUN MOTORIST ARRESTED

Sysillia Morrison Montes De Oca, 18, of Costa Mesa, was allegedly driving the silver, 2009 Volkswagen Jetta sedan southbound at the time of the fatal crash. She reportedly fled the scene without stopping to help the two injured victims. She later turned herself in about 6 p.m. on Friday, August 13th, according to the Laguna Beach Police Dept. Authorities arrested her at the police station on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit-and-run.  Later, authorities released her on $100,000 bail.

Police reportedly discovered the suspect’s Volkswagen concealed in an Aliso Viejo home’s garage.

Investigators are piecing together what led up to the crash and believe that “speed was a contributing factor,” but there are no further details.

The victims were reportedly a Costa Mesa couple who were out celebrating their wedding anniversary at Ristorante Rumari, the OC Register reported.
