Woman Bicyclist, 29, in Seriously Condition Following Friday Hit-and-Run
ENCINITAS (August 15, 2017)- According to NBC News San Diego, a malicious and morbid incident was reported when a woman fell victim and was seriously injured by a hit-and-run motorist Friday evening, August 11.
At roughly 10:00 p.m., a woman identified as Stephanie Berger, 29, had been riding her bicycle on North Coast Highway 101 in a lane shared by both cyclists and drivers.
At some point, Berger was hit by a passing driver in a Mercedes C class whose driver failed to stop and fled the scene leaving the injured woman behind.
Burger was transported from the scene to Scripps La Jolla Med Center where she currently remains in a medically induced coma with a major head injury. Medical Staff members confirmed they have already seen progress in her recovery.
As of now, authorities have not been successful in capturing the assailant responsible for the collision as the suspect remains at large.
A $1,000 reward is being offered to anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of the liable. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
In this case, the hit-and-run driver will be held responsible for the injuries incurred to Ms. Berger. It is expected for any motorist to stop and remain at the scene after being involved in a crash. Regardless of their reasons, fleeing the area is a serious crime and punishable by law, especially if the collision led to the injury of another individual. We are hopeful that the authorities will soon be able to locate the suspect and justice will be served.
The victim in this incident, Ms. Stephanie Berger, will have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault party, seeking recompense for medical bills, lost future income, and pain and suffering. Our staff believes that the victims and families of hit-and-run cases need a professional and an expert attorney who will fight aggressively for their legal rights in court.
