Uber Driver and Passenger Injured in La Mesa Rollover Crash on 8 Freeway
LA MESA (May 21, 2020) – Authorities detained the alleged DUI motorist that injured the driver and passenger of an Uber on the 8 Freeway early Thursday.
The California Highway Patrol determined that 24-year-old Stephen Briseno, of El Cajon, was under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred.
Officers said Briseno was driving a 2009 Cadillac CTS allegedly at a high rate of speed on the eastbound 8 Freeway when he struck the rear of a 2017 Honda Civic.
The Honda, a ride-hailing vehicle, then spun out of control and rolled over in the No. 2 lane of the freeway. The collision happened at around 12:10 a.m., east of Baltimore Drive.
Suspected Drunk Driver ID’d as Stephen Briseno, 24
According to reports by San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10 News, paramedics transported the two occupants of the Civic to Sharp Memorial hospital for treatment.
The 36-year-old man operating the Uber suffered major injuries in the wreck. His passenger, a 22-year-old woman, sustained minor wounds upon impact.
The names of the victims and their condition at this time remained undisclosed. Meanwhile, Briseno was unharmed following the incident.
Officers later arrested Briseno on suspicion of DUI causing injury and booked him into San Diego County Jail with a bail set at $100,000.
