Stephen Kiesle, 75, ID’d as Suspect in Walnut Creek DUI Crash on Tice Creek Drive
WALNUT CREEK, CA (April 20, 2022) – Authorities detained Stephen Kiesle after a fatal DUI crash on Tice Creek Drive in Walnut Creek.
Police determined that the 75-year-old Rossmoor man was under the influence when the accident took place on Saturday night.
The incident began when Stephen Kiesle was driving on Tice Creek Drive near Fairlawn Court in Walnut Creek. At the same time, Curtis Gunn and Laurelyn Gunn were walking on the sidewalk.
Police said Stephen Kiesle approached and jumped the curb. In the process, he clipped Laurelyn Gunn and then struck Curt Gunn.
The 64-year-old Rossmoor man ended up knocked 20 to 25 feet from the point of impact. His wife sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.

Medical personnel took the couple to a hospital, where the husband died. The Mercury News and East County Today wrote that the incident occurred on April 16 at about 9 p.m.
Meanwhile, the car rolled onto its side following the accident. Firefighters rescued Stephen Kiesle from the wreckage and treated him for the minor wounds he suffered in the crash.
Police soon arrested Stephen Kiesle for DUI and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. They booked him into the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of a $250,000 bail.
Records described the suspect as a former priest who served prison time after pleading guilty to molesting a girl in 1995 and was accused of sexually abusing many more.
