Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Highway 178 is Identified
BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. (Oct. 1, 2024) — Stephen Michael Prough, 60, of Weldon, died in a motorcycle versus truck accident on Highway 178 last Friday, just west of McCray Road near Lake Isabella.
The motorcyclist and a truck collided at around 5:05 p.m. on Sept. 27th, according to the California Highway Patrol and Kern County Coroner’s Office.
The Weldon man was riding a 2003 Honda motorcycle eastbound on Highway 178 when a 16-year-old boy driving a 2009 Chevrolet turned left from McCray Road onto Highway 178. The car pulled out directly into the path of the motorcyclist, the report said. Stephen Prough attempted to avoid hitting the vehicle, but lost control and slid into the left side of the Chevrolet.
The motorcyclist was partially ejected from his bike and hit the roadway. Unfortunately, the man died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
