Three Killed in Winnetka Crash on Vanowen Street
WINNETKA, Calif. (July 5, 2022) – Steve Orellana, Jr., 22, Celestino Fuentes, 22, and Isaiah Sanchez, 23, died Sunday night in a Winnetka crash on Vanowen Street.
Seven others suffered injuries in the crash about 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 3rd in the 19700 block of Vanowen Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Authorities believe that excessive speed may have caused the 3-vehicle collision.
The Los Angeles Police Department added that all three men were traveling together in a Ford Explorer SUV traveling at speeds of 65 to 70 mph in a 35-mph zone.
Apparently, the Ford drove over a dip at Corbin Avenue and it lost control. The SUV reportedly slammed into a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Next, the Ford Explorer rolled over and struck an Audi before it came to a stop.
Also, the three young men were all ejected from the SUV and died at the scene. The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner identified them on its website. A fourth person from the SUV was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and survived with very minor injuries, police said.
Additionally, paramedics transported the six injured people to hospitals with serious injuries, officials said. All of them had stable vital signs at the time they were transported.
Finally, the cause of the crash and liability remains under investigation by the LAPD.
