Head-on Crash at Ingomar Grade in Merced County
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (July 10, 2019) — One man was injured and another was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a head-on crash Monday on Ingomar Grade, just south of Cottonwood Road.
The crash took place about 4:45 p.m. on July 8th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police say that 24-year-old Felipe Sandoval of Los Banos was heading south in his 1994 Honda on Ingomar Grade when he allegedly made an unsafe turn and crossed over the double yellow lines into the path of a 2006 Toyota, according to CHP.
The two vehicles collided head-on, leaving the driver of the Toyota Steve Pruett, 60, of Delhi with major injuries, according to the CHP. He was transported by air ambulance to a nearby hospital in Modesto.
In fact, Pruett was trapped in his car until firefighters responded and rescued him from the vehicle. Meanwhile, police observed Sandoval was showing signs of intoxication and so he was tested and arrested for DUI.
Sandoval suffered moderate injuries and was also airlifted to a Modesto hospital.
The crash remains under investigation, CHP said.
