Driver Killed in Crash with Semi-Tractor Trailer on Mariposa Road
STOCKTON, Calif. (February 7, 2019) — A driver in a Honda Accord died in a collision with a big rig truck Saturday on Mariposa Road, according to the Stockon California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at approximately 5:50 a.m. on Feb. 2. The Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Mariposa Road just east of Munford Avenue. Meanwhile, a big rig tractor hauling a flatbed trailer loaded with steel rods exited a driveway on the south side of Mariposa Road. The tractor was completely in the westbound lane, however, the rear axle of the trailer remained in the eastbound lane, the CHP said. The driver of the Honda apparently didn’t see the tractor trailer combination and crashed into the rear axle of the trailer.
The driver in the car suffered major injuries and was transported to a hospital where they later died.
The truck trailer and the Honda were both badly damaged in the crash.
Police do not believe that alcohol and/or drugs were factors in this collision, but the roadway was likely dark and visibility may have contributed.
A full investigation into liability is underway by police.
