STOCKTON (August 31, 2016)- According to ABC 10 News, a deadly car crash has left an 84-year-old woman identified as Marilyn Bettencourt dead Wednesday afternoon following a collision with a Stockton patrol police vehicle at Pershing Avenue and Rivara Road.
The article read that Bettencourt was entering the intersection with a green light as the police patrol vehicle blew through the intersection with its lights on and struck the woman’s vehicle.
The 84-year-old woman sadly did not survive the impact of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene immediately.
The two officers involved in the collision, Joseph Ciccareli and Gregory Lee, were injured to a minor degree and both taken to San Joaquin General Hospital, the article included.
Although the officer had their lights on, it is still the officer’s duty to cautiously drive through an intersection against a red light so that other motorists are not endangered.
The collision will be investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
