DATE OF COLLISION: Tuesday, January 8th
January 8, 2019 – One person was killed following a traffic collision involving multiple trucks on Highway 99 just south of Arch Road Tuesday, according to Recordnet.
Initial reports indicated a disabled 2012 Peterbilt silage truck was seen parked on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of the highway around 5:06 a.m. The truck was apparently partially blocking the right lane.

At the same time, a 2013 Peterbilt semitruck was approaching from behind at about 55 miles an hour and was being followed by 2017 International semitruck, which was traveling at an unknown rate of speed. Investigators determined the Peterbilt slowed down and moved to the left to accommodate the disabled silage truck, but the International did not reduce its speed.
The International then collided into the right rear of the Peterbilt’s trailer, then veered to the right and collided with the right rear of the silage truck.
Caltrans arrived on scene at about 6 a.m. and closed both the Arch Road on- and offramps
As per the article, the driver of the International was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office as 36-year-old Pedro Avila, of Modesto.
At this time, it is still unclear if there were other injures in the crash.
Investigators handling the case continue to work to determine liability in the deadly accident.
We offer our warmest of thoughts, our prayers, and condolences to the family members of the deceased as they search for peace and comfort.
