Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Vehicle
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 16, 2022) – A driver in a stolen vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian early Thursday at 71st Street and South Central Avenue during a high-speed police pursuit in the south Los Angeles area.
Authorities arrested the driver following the deadly 12:30 a.m. crash on June 16th, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver reportedly struck a man crossing the street at the intersection.
Paramedics responded to the scene and located the victim described as a man in his 20s. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Meanwhile, police arrested the 42-year-old woman driving the stolen vehicle, but first took her to a hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. They did not release her name at this time.
Authorities had begun to pursue the stolen vehicle in the Florence neighborhood, but when the suspect took off at high speed they reportedly backed off of the ground pursuit. However, a helicopter continued to track the vehicle, authorities said.
An investigation is underway and authorities will seek to determine if drugs and or alcohol were also factors in the deadly crash.
