Passenger in Porsche Killed in Freak Accident on 91 Freeway
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (April 27, 2021) — A passenger in a Porsche died Sunday when a tire came off a van and crashed through the car’s windshield while heading down the 91 Freeway in Corona.
The California Highway Patrol reported the incident happened about 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 25th, just west of Lincoln Avenue.
Investigators believe the left front wheel came off of a green, Ford Econoline van. It happened as the van headed eastbound on the 91 Freeway in Corona. After it fell off the van, it went over the center divider, crossed the express lanes and smashed into the front windshield of the Porsche.
The wheel struck the right, front side of the car and its passenger.
The silver Porsche coupe came to a stop and its passenger was unresponsive. Corona firefighters transported the injured passenger from the 91 Freeway to a hospital, but the man later died from his injuries, police said.
Meanwhile, no other injuries reported in the Porsche or the van.
Witnesses are asked to contact California Highway Patrol investigators at 951-637-8000.
