Suspect Pleads Not Guilty | Fatal Crash on Highway 178 Near Beale Avenue

Alejandro Marix Manriquez-Chavez, 23, Killed in Bakersfield Crash
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (June 19, 2025) — Hisa Ann Castillo, 27, pleaded not guilty to felony charges including vehicular manslaughter after allegedly driving drunk and killing a passenger in a crash on Highway 178, near Beale Avenue in Bakersfield.
The woman, who is being held on $725,000 bail, was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She also faces charges such as two counts of DUI causing injury, and a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended or revoked license, court records show.
The woman’s next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 27 at Superior Court Metropolitan Division.
Deadly Crash on Highway 178 in Bakersfield
The charges stem from a fatal crash around 1 a.m. on June 13, 2025. Hisa Castillo was driving at high speed in a Hyundai Santa Fe with two passengers when she crashed into a parked Saturn Ion on the right shoulder of eastbound Highway 178.
A passenger in the Hyundai, Alejandro Marix Manriquez-Chavez, 23, died at the scene. Meanwhile, Hisa Castillo and a second passenger both survived with injuries. She was arrested at the scene and booked into jail.
The case remains under investigation.
