3 Children, 2 Adults Hurt in DUI Suspected Crash
RANCHO BERNARDO, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2018) — Five people including three children were injured Monday morning in a head-on collision with a suspected drunken driver traveling the wrong way on a Rancho Bernardo street, police said.
The crash took place about 4:30 a.m. on Camino del Norte near Paseo Montanoso, just west of Interstate 15, San Diego police said.
A woman driving a black Suburban with three children was driving east in the westbound lanes of Camino del Norte. Her SUV crashed head-on into another vehicle injuring an infant, a 2-year-old and an 8-year-old who were in her vehicle.
Children Hospitalized Following Crash in Rancho Bernardo
One of the children was taken by ambulance to Rady Children’s Hospital and two others were transported to Palomar Hospital in “acute status,” police said. The baby may have been unrestrained at the time of the collision, but this is under investigation.
The two adults driving the vehicles were transported to a hospital for treatment, police said.
San Diego Accident Investigation
Police are heading up an investigation into the cause of this crash and will examine the evidence at the scene, take measurements and speak to those involved as well as witnesses. Upon the conclusion of their investigation, they will determine who is at fault for the crash and whether or not criminal charges should be filed against the negligent driver. A driver who is under the influence of alcohol and or drugs will likely be held responsible in this case.
