2 Adults, 2 Children Injured in Collision
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (July 10, 2024) — Two children were critically injured Monday when their mother’s car crashed into the back of another vehicle on Highway 152 in Merced County.
Both drivers were also hurt in the 8:30 p.m. crash on Monday, July 8th, according to the California Highway Patrol, Fox 26 News, and ABC 30 News.
CHP officials reported the two-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 152 just west of Lodi Road.
Elizabeth Garibay, 25, was traveling westbound on SR-152 in a 2007 Toyota Camry with her children on Highway 152. She attempted to pass a 2013 Nissan Frontier, but struck the back of the pickup truck.
Both drivers lost control and the Nissan overturned into an irrigation ditch on the shoulder of the roadway.
Paramedics responded and located the two children ages 4 and 8 years old from the Toyota Camry with major injuries and rushed them to Valley Children’s Hospital. Authorities confirmed both children were not wearing seat belts.
Both drivers were treated for minor injuries.
However, police arrested the 25-year-old woman driving the Camry for child endangerment with possible great bodily injury or death, DUI with a blood-alcohol content of .08 and causing bodily injury and DUI alcohol causing bodily injury, according to police records.
The case remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Los Banos.
