Suspected Street Racing Crash on Shore Road in Hollister Area

Major Injury Head-on Collision Near Lake Road

HOLLISTER, Calif. (April 14, 2026) — A violent early-morning crash possibly involving street racing left at least one person with critical injuries early Tuesday and prompted a closure of Shore Road in the rural Hollister area.

The collision was reported on April 14th around 5:25 a.m. at Shore Road and Lake Road, between Lovers Lane, according to the California Highway Patrol. dispatch logs. Initial reports indicated that three to four vehicles were involved, although authorities later confirmed that there were two primary vehicles involved in the crash. One was a white 2014 GMC Sierra, and the other was a gray 2014 Honda Accord.

Witnesses told dispatchers that two vehicles appeared to be racing at high speed — estimated at around 80 mph — when one attempted to pass multiple cars and collided head-on with another vehicle. The Honda Accord reportedly sustained major damage on the right side.

A pickup truck was reportedly struck during the incident, while another vehicle was described as “completely mangled.” At one point, callers reported a vehicle on fire and a person possibly trapped or severely injured. One occupant was described as “not looking good,” raising concerns about life-threatening injuries.

Emergency crews, including fire personnel and CHP officers, responded to the scene. Authorities requested assistance from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office to shut down Shore Road, with closures extending to State Route 25 and the Dunneville area to manage traffic and ensure scene safety.

At least one vehicle was towed from the scene, and the roadway remained impacted for an extended period as investigators worked to determine the exact cause of the crash.

It remains unclear whether any fatalities occurred. The incident is under investigation.
