TAFT: Fatal E-Bike, Truck Crash Kern Street (SR33) and 10th Street
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Sept. 3, 2026) — A man riding an electric bicycle died Wednesday morning in Taft after he was in a crash with a driver in a utility bucket truck turning in front of him at Kern Street (SR-33) and 10th Street.
The Taft Police Department responded to the scene around 10:47 a.m. on September 2, 2026, police said.
Detectives working on the case determined both the e-bike rider and the utility truck were eastbound on Kern Street (Highway 33).
The bicyclist was on the sidewalk traveling towards 10th Street and the trucker was stopped for a red traffic signal at 10th Street. However, as the truck driver began to make a right-hand turn onto 10th Street, the bicycle rider crashed into the truck. The rider was thrown off into the roadway and died at the scene, police said.
Authorities are hoping witnesses will contact the Taft Police Department to help them piece together the sequence of events and determine fault.
