Fatal Hit-and-run Pedestrian Accident on Highway 58
BORON, California (January 5, 2021) – A 52-year-old Taft man died Sunday night in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Highway 58 in Boron.
The fatal crash took place just west of US Highway 395 about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 3rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP reported that the man was driving his 2003 GMC SUV with his family on the highway. At some point, he began to experience mechanical problems and pulled the SUV over to the shoulder.
While speaking with the tow truck company, he exited his vehicle to take a look at his exact location. That’s when he walked eastbound on the shoulder of the highway in westbound lanes and was struck by the oncoming truck.
The driver of a semi-truck struck the man in the number 2 lane. Sadly, the man suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
The truck drove a short distance before its driver pulled over not far from the victim’s disabled GMC. After the truck driver and passenger exited the vehicle and evaluated the situation, they both got back into the vehicle and fled.
Police are searching for the suspected hit-and-run driver. Witnesses are urged to contact the CHP.
