1 Killed, 3 Injured in Crash on Old Highway 99 at Rodeo Ave in Gerber
TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. (Dec. 11, 2019) — Tamera Elaine Flynn, 37, was killed and Jarrod Loyd Flynn, 36, was badly injured Tuesday morning in a head-on collision on Old Highway 99 in Gerber.
The collision took place about 5:45 a.m. on Dec. 10th at Rodeo Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol and Action News.
The man and woman were both riding in a a Ford truck that was struck by a northbound Honda Civic that was traveling in the southbound lanes while attempting to pass slower-moving traffic.
Fernando Leon, 21, of Corning, was driving the Honda Civic when he attempted to pass another car on the southbound side of Old Highway 99, but was unable to merge back into the northbound lane. That’s when the Honda crashed into the Ford truck driven by Jarrod Flynn of Red Bluff. Next, a southbound Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into the disabled Ford and the Honda wound up on the westbound shoulder.
Both Flynn and his passenger, Tamera Flynn, were airlifted to St. Elizabeth Hospital where she later died. Jarrod Flynn was treated for a broken ankle and possible internal injuries. The CHP reported that neither of the Flynn’s were wearing seat belts, but their car’s airbags deployed.
Fernando Leon, and his passenger, 46-year-old Bradley Myers of Red Bluff, both suffered minor injuries and were also taken to a hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet truck suffered minor injuries in the collision.
The collision remains under investigation by police, but drugs and or alcohol did not appear to be factors.
