Teen Booked on Suspicion of Murder for Long Beach Hit-and-Run
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Dec. 7, 2023) – Police arrested a 16-year-old boy who allegedly fled the scene of a fatal bicycle collision in Long Beach this past summer.
Authorities reported the victim was “intentionally struck” by a dark-colored vehicle in the hit-and-run collision.
Leobardo Cervantes, 29, was riding a bicycle when he was struck in the hit-and-run crash on July 9th near Harding Street and California Avenue in Long Beach.
The driver in the sedan was allegedly speeding eastbound on Harding Street. The motorist struck the Long Beach man around 7:55 a.m. on July 9th, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police identified the teenage boy as the suspect who reportedly fled the scene without stopping to help the injured bicyclist. Paramedics responded and rushed Leobardo Cervantes to the hospital where he later died on July 26th.
The Long Beach Police Department responded and initiated an investigation into the crash. Authorities believe the collision was intentional and they are investigating the crash as a homicide, according to a report by Bikinginla.com.
The teenage boy was already in custody for an unrelated charge when he was booked Wednesday on suspicion of murder. Authorities did not release his name due to his age.
