Teenage Driver Hit Seven People on Sidewalk in Fatal Oakland Crash
3 Killed in Oakland Crash were Charles Blackmon, James Dixon, Miguel Ramirez
OAKLAND, Calif. (May 20, 2026) — Three men were killed Saturday night when they were hit by a speeding pickup truck that went onto a sidewalk in East Oakland and hit a group of people.
They were identified as Vietnam veteran, Charles Ray Blackmon, 65, of Oakland; James Robert Dixon, 64, also known as “O.G. Frog; and Miguel Sanchez Ramirez, 44, of Oakland.
The deadly collision happened about 11;15 p.m. Saturday, May 16th, on a sidewalk outside the East Bay Market and Liquor store in the 8400 block of International Boulevard at the corner of 85th Avenue, police said.
A 17-year-old boy driving a pickup truck was reportedly speeding northbound on 85th Avenue and struck several vehicles before entering the intersection and onto International Boulevard. That’s when he lost control and jumped the sidewalk, hitting a crowd of people. The three men struck in the crash died at the scene.
Paramedics responded and transported five other people to a hospital, including one in very critical condition. Two others were listed in stable condition and the driver and the final victim were treated and released from the hospital.
Police arrested the boy and he is being held at Alameda County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of multiple counts of vehicular manslaughter. He is also charged with hit and run causing death or great bodily injury. It’s unknown at this time if drugs and or alcohol were factors in the crash, but reckless driving is under consideration.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case to determine formal charges.
