Teen Struck by Pickup Truck Near US Border Checkpoint
SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (August 9, 2018) — A 14-year-old girl was critically injured Thursday morning when she was struck by a pickup truck on the Interstate 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place about 9:50 a.m., just south of the US Border Patrol Checkpoint and south of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant.
The teenager was struck by a white pickup truck as she ran from the right shoulder to the No. 2 lane of the freeway.
The freeway was shut down temporarily and paramedics responded to airlift the teen from the scene to a trauma center in La Jolla for treatment of major injuries.
Pedestrian Accident Investigation
At this time, we do not know all the facts about this case. It’s unknown why the teenager was walking or running in traffic lanes or outside of a vehicle. A full investigation into liability for the accident is underway by police.
