Boy, 17, Man, 18, Killed; One Injured in Riverside Collision
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2024) — Two teenagers died Saturday morning in a fiery traffic Riverside crash on Wood Road, just north of Van Buren Boulevard.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 5:40 a.m. on Nov. 2nd, according to the Riverside Fire Department and CBS News.
Police and firefighters responded and found one vehicle on fire and destroyed at the scene.
Paramedics from the Riverside Fire Department located Jassiem Hawthorne, 17, of Riverside, and an unidentified 18-year-old Riverside man in a gray Lexus sedan. Both of them died at the scene of the crash, but a third person described as a 17-year-old boy survived with major injuries.
Investigators determined the Lexus sedan was heading north on Wood Road at a high rate of speed. The driver reportedly drove through a red traffic light at Van Buren Boulevard and collided with a westbound blue Scion. The driver in the Scion reportedly had a green light at the time of the crash.
Upon impact, the Lexus continued traveling northbound before it hit a cement light pole, a wood electrical pole, and a tree before. The car erupted in flames when it finally came to a stop.
Police are investigating the crash and believe that alcohol, drugs and speed could be contributing factors.
Witnesses are asked to call Traffic Detective Amanda Beeman at 951-826-8723 or email [email protected].
