TEMECULA, California (November 12, 2014) – Driver James Borree, 51, of Temecula died Saturday just hours after he was critically injured in a head-on car crash on Montelegro Way, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
A second driver suffered major injuries in the crash reported at 12:46 p.m. According to Riverside Police, the driver of a Jeep SUV was heading northbound on Via Amarita approaching Pio Pico when they veered into the southbound lanes and struck the driver of a Mercedes Benz who was driving in the opposite direction.
Both of the drivers suffered major injuries and one of them became trapped in their vehicle, but was extricated by members of the California Department of Fire. The two drivers were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals.
Borree was taken to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center where he died at 4:21 p.m. the same day. The two reports do not indicate which vehicle Borree was driving at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Jeep SUV is believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
The Temecula Police Department and the Riverside county Sheriff’s Department are heading up an investigation into the crash.
