TEMECULA, California (January 15, 2016) — A 19-year-old motorcyclist suffered major injuries Thursday night in a collision with a car at the intersection of Nicolas and Roripaugh roads, a report by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.
The crash was reported at 7:43 p.m. last night. The Temecula Police Department rushed to the scene and found the rider down in the roadway. The driver of a gray Mazda 3 sedan remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Paramedics responded and transported the injured teenager to a local hospital where he is being treated for major injuries.
Police are investigating what led to the crash, but initial results indicate the motorcyclist was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred. The driver of the car, however, made a left-hand turn in front of the bike which had the right-of-way.
“Drivers should always yield the right-of-way to other motorists when making a left-hand turn,” said Attorney James Johnson. “I sure hope this rider has a full recovery.”
The intersection was closed down for roughly four hours to investigate the crash.
Witnesses are asked to contact Officer Carpenter at the Temecula Police Department at 951-696-3000 or on weekends at 951-776-1099.
