Teodomiro Ponce Killed, Yolanda Ponce Badly Injured in Lost Hills Crash on Highway 46
LOST HILLS (July 8, 2019) – A man was killed and a woman was badly injured after a traffic collision along Highway 46 Sunday afternoon, July 7.
The coroner’s office identified the deceased victim as 72-year-old Teodomiro Torres Ponce, a resident of Watsonville.
California Highway Patrol said the vehicle driven by Ponce was struck by another car on Highway 46, just east of Lost Hills Road. The accident occurred at about 3:26 p.m.
The incident began when 22-year-old Thomas Schaiterer allegedly took his eyes off the road as he traveled east on Highway 46 ahead of the intersection with Lost Hills Road.

Schaiterer reportedly looked back and saw that traffic was stopped in front of him. He then turned his vehicle left into oncoming traffic and collided with Ponce’s car.
According to an article published by Kern Golden Empire, Ponce was immediately transported to Kern Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
His passenger, 66-year-old Yolanda Ponce, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for moderate injuries. Schaiterer sustained major injuries and was also hospitalized.
Meanwhile, the condition of the two wounded parties remained unknown at this time. The incident is still under investigation.
