Terry Nilsen Jr, 22, Killed in Chico Hit-and-Run Crash on The Esplanade
CHICO, CA (March 6, 2022) – Terry Nilsen Jr was killed after a hit-and-run crash on The Esplanade in Chico.
Police identified the 22-year-old Chico man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place early Sunday.
The incident happened when Terry Nilsen Jr was riding a moped south on the Esplanade in Chico. A pickup truck was traveling in the same direction at the time.
Police said the car then struck the rider in the 3500 block of the road. The pickup dragged the moped for almost 2 miles before it ended up dislodged from the truck.
Driver Hits Moped Rider, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the victim down on the ground. He sustained severe injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed the man to a hospital, where he died. The Action News Now and ABC 7 News wrote that the accident occurred at about 12:39 a.m., north of the Shasta Elementary School.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver did not stop to render aid to the rider and fled the area. They arrested the motorist for DUI and hit-and-run causing major injury after leaving Terry Nilsen Jr.
Officers soon charged him with vehicular manslaughter. The Chico hit-and-run crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 897-4970.
