Tesla and FedEx Van Crash on I-5 Freeway in San Clemente
2-Vehicle Crash Near Camp Pendleton | FedEx Van Overturned
SAN CLEMENTE, CA (April 25, 2025) — A two-vehicle crash involving a white Tesla and a FedEx delivery van caused major traffic on the northbound I-5 Freeway near Basilone Road early Friday morning in San Clemente.
The van reportedly overturned and wound up on an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred just before 7:20 a.m. on April 25th in the northbound lanes near the Camp Pendleton area. Initial reports indicate that the FedEx van flipped multiple times before landing on its side on the right shoulder embankment.
Meanwhile, the white Tesla, also involved in the collision, was not blocking lanes. However, witnesses told authorities the car was allegedly speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before the crash occurred, prompting a “23103” reckless driving notation from CHP dispatchers.
It remains unclear how many people were inside the vehicles or if anyone was ejected. Emergency responders from Camp Pendleton and CHP arrived at the scene, with one unit reporting that the Tesla was already being prepared for tow. Officials held both vehicles on the right side of the freeway while they investigated.
Camp Pendleton Police were also on scene assisting, and the extent of injuries is still under investigation. As of 8:00 a.m., traffic remained heavy in the area with delays reported in the northbound lanes.
Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the area and expect possible residual delays while cleanup and investigations continue.
CHP has not yet released further information on potential charges or citations related to the crash.
