Woman Killed in Sacramento Crash Identified as Thelma Barrios
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (June 8, 2020) – Thelma Soto Barrios, 30, of Rancho Cordova, died in an alleged DUI crash on May 31st on Highway 99 in Sacramento.
The fatal crash took place about 2:25 a.m. on the northbound side of Highway 99 near 12th Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a Kia Niro was traveling north on Highway 99 when a Toyota Tundra traveling at high speed came up from behind the vehicle.
The pickup truck reportedly crashed into the back of the Kia as to changed lanes from the No. 3 lane to the No. 2 lane, police said. Upon impact, the Kia caught fire and trapped Thelma Barrios in the passenger seat.
Unfortunately, Barrios suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Kia driver suffered severe burns and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Tundra, who was identified as Edgar Mayorga of Sacramento, was arrested. The suspect faces DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter charges.
