THERMAL, California (May 14, 2015) — A semi-tractor trailer truck hauling wood collided with a red Ford Fusion sedan early Thursday morning causing the vehicle to get trapped under the truck at the intersection of Harrison Street and Middleton, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
The big rig truck driver managed to pull the other driver out from under the truck where the driver was pinned before help could arrive about 4:35 a.m. Paramedics responded and treated the person for major injuries and transported them to Desert Hospital.
Roughly 180 gallons of diesel fuel spilled during the crash and Riverside County Environmental Health was called to the scene for cleanup. Police closed down Middleton in both directions as well as the northbound lanes of Harrison Street, the report said.
“A collision with a semi-tractor trailer truck can be tragic, but fortunately it looks like this individual survived with minor injuries,” said Attorney James Johnson. “Hopefully they get the best care available for a full recovery.”
