1 Killed, 2 Hurt Buellton Car Accident on Highway 101
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY (Feb. 1, 2021) – Thomas Vernon Smith, 67, of Guadalupe, died, two were hurt in a collision on Highway 101 north of Buellton.
The collision happened about 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29th, according to the KEYT and Noozhawk News.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash on the northbound side of Highway 101 near Twin Oaks, the California Highway Patrol said.
Thomas Smith was driving a vehicle that allegedly sideswiped another motorist. Both vehicles went off the roadway. Smith’s vehicle overturned onto its side before it struck a tree. The driver was located and was unconscious inside.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and it is believed he died from a heart attack during the collision.
A female passenger who was in the vehicle with Thomas Smith was transported to Marian Regional Hospital in Santa Maria with major injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was driven by a passerby to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital, police said.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
