Man Dies in Hospital After Fresno Pedestrian Accident
FRESNO, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2023) — Thomas Zapata Jr., 70, of Fresno, died last Wednesday, eleven days after he was hit by a car in a pedestrian accident at East Bullard Avenue and North First Street in Fresno.
The pedestrian accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on August 26th at the Fresno intersection, according to the Fresno County Sheriff Coroner.
A teenage driver reportedly turned from a westbound lane on Bullard Avenue onto northbound First Street, according to the Fresno Bee. As the motorist drove through the intersection, the driver allegedly struck Thomas Zapata Jr. in a crosswalk.
Someone called 911 to report the crash and request police and paramedics. Authorities located Zapata on the ground with major injuries.
An ambulance transported the injured man to Community Regional Medical Center. He was listed in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 6.
Police are investigating the collision to determine fault and the teenage driver has been cooperative.
