THOUSAND OAKS, California (May 20, 2014) – Three drivers collided Tuesday morning in a crash on the northbound US 101 Freeway at Hampshire Road, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
9:54 a.m., CHP officers responded to the collision between the drivers of a SUV, a silver Volkswagen station wagon and a full-sized pickup truck pulling a trailer that was blocking lanes No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the 101 Freeway, the report said.
The Ventura County Fire Department responded to the scene of the crash to assist as one of the vehicles was smoking and there were injuries reported.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the Thousand Oaks accident to determine liability for the incident.
The crash comes a week after contractors began a new $43 million construction project to improve congestion on the northbound US 101 Freeway starting at Hampshire Road and to the State Route 23 interchange. The improvements are expected to make the freeway safer by adding a lane in each direction, widening on ramps and widening the bridges at several locations including Hampshire Road.
