CARLSBAD, California (June 27, 2016) — A 48-year-old Tijuana man is fighting for his life after he was struck by a hit-and-run pickup truck driver on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway after he stopped to help a friend on the shoulder of the freeway, according to a report by Fox 5 News.
The crash took place about 9:40 p.m. on Saturday night near Palomar Airport Road, police said. Police are searching for the driver in a newer-model white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
The victim was struck by the truck driver who reportedly drove on the shoulder and then exited the freeway. The victim was out of his vehicle helping a friend when the crash happened.
Paramedics rushed the injured man to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla where he is being treated for major injuries.
Police are asking for the public’s help to locate the suspect. The vehicle is believed to have right side damage, a flat tire and front-end damage.Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact the CHP at (858) 637-3800.
