Man, 70, Fatally Injured After Veering Into Oncoming Traffic
TULARE (October 26, 2017)- According to the Visalia-Times Delta, a deadly collision left a man dead and a woman hospitalized following a 3-car collision Thursday at the intersection of Hillman Street and Pacific Avenue.
California Highway Patrol officials were dispatched to the scene of a crash at 6:30 p.m. involving a Hyundai Accent, a GMC Yukon, and a Chevy pickup truck.
Authorities have disclosed that the driver of Hyundai, a 70-year-old male of Visalia who has not been ID’d by name, had been traveling northbound on Hillman before veering into southbound lanes directly into the path of the GMC driven by Tina Correia, 50.
Correia who had been accompanied by a 15 and a 2-year-old was unable to avoid the collision and collided with the Hyundai broadsiding the vehicle.
The Chevy pickup truck was also involved moments later after its driver could not avoid the crash hitting the size of the Hyundai.
The impact sadly left the 70-year-old male with fatal injuries as police believe that he died of impact.
Meanwhile, Tina Corriea sustained moderate injuries in which she was transported by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Med Center. She has been confirmed to have been in stable condition as of Friday.
Neither of Correia’s minor passengers nor the pickup truck driver suffered injuries, per the article.
Tulare Police, the Tulare Fire Department, and Tulare County Fire Department were called to assist CHP officers.
No details have been released at this time regarding what caused the Hyundai driver to suddenly lose control and shift into opposite traffic lanes.
CHP and the Tulare Police Department will team up on the investigation.

Based on this news report, the 70-year-old driver of the Hyundai who ultimately died of his injuries will be held responsible for the injuries incurred to the driver of the GMC Yukon, Tina Correia who was hospitalized following the collision. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Did excessive speed or distracted driving play a role? Was the driver negligent in any other way? We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, Ms. Tina Correia will be entitled to a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault party seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses and hospital bills, lost future income from being out of work due to injury and pain and suffering.
