Man, 54, Identified as Victim of Hit-and-run Crash
LEMON GROVE, Calif. (May 1, 2024) — Tom Rogers, 54, died early Wednesday in a pedestrian accident involving a hit-and-run driver on College Avenue in Lemon Grove.
The deadly crash occurred at around 12:23 a.m. on April 24th, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
The report stated the homeless man was attempting to cross College Avenue in an area outside of any marked crosswalks. A driver traveling northbound on College Avenue stopped to allow the man to cross the street, but another driver in a pickup truck failed to see the victim. The pickup truck struck Tom Rogers in the roadway and its driver fled the scene.
Unfortunately, the pedestrian sustained major injuries and died around 12:36 a.m. at the scene of the crash.
Detectives with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department are heading up the investigation.
