Bicycle Rider Seriously Injured in Torrey Highlands Crash on State Route 56
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 20, 2022) – A crash seriously injured a bicycle rider on State Route 56 and Camino Del Sur in Torrey Highlands.
According to an article published by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the accident took place on Wednesday evening. Officers reported the collision at about 5:25 p.m.
Police said the incident happened on May 18 when a Volvo XC90 was turning right from the State Route 56 exit onto Camino Del Sur.
For an unknown reason, the SUV hit a 57-year-old woman riding a bicycle in a crosswalk in the Torrey Highlands neighborhood. The crosswalk is dedicated to a protected bike trail.
Bicyclist Hit by Car
The victim sustained serious injuries, including fractures of her pelvis and fifth lumbar vertebrae, as a result of the collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene and rushed her to a hospital for treatment. The report did not disclose the name of the wounded party and her condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police did not mention if the 80-year-old man driving the car ended up hurt following the wreck. Officers forced a stretch of State Route 56 to shut down after the incident.
The cause of the Torrey Highlands bicycle crash is still under investigation.
