Tour de Palm Springs Bicyclist Killed, Another Injured in Crash on Dillon Road

INDIO HILLS, Riverside County (February 10, 2018) – A bicyclist was killed and another was badly injured after a traffic collision along Tour de Palm Springs route Saturday morning, according to The Desert Sun.

The accident was reported at 9:25 a.m. on eastbound Dillon Road, south of Tinker Road.

As per the article, California Highway Patrol said several bicyclists were going east on Dillon Road as part of the Tour de Palm Springs when they were truck by a sedan.

The car reportedly approached in the westbound lane and drove off the roadway onto the dirt shoulder. The driver lost control of the vehicle and swerved back into the path of oncoming bicyclists. The motorist ultimately went across the eastbound lane over a dirt berm, causing the sedan to roll over.

CHP affirmed that one cyclist died at the scene as a result of the crash. Another rider was seriously hurt and flown to a hospital for treatment. The names of both the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released.

Meanwhile, the driver was also hospitalized with moderate injuries. Witnesses told the officials that the car was traveling at more than 100 mph at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
