Several Injured in Chain-Reaction Collision on Highway 99 Near Live Oak
SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. (Dec. 19, 2024) — Three people were injured in a five-vehicle crash involving a tow truck Wednesday on Highway 99, just south of Encinal Road in Sutter County.
The multi-vehicle collision occurred at 3:14 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18th, just south of Live Oak, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP dispatch center received multiple 911 calls alerting them to the crash in the northbound lanes of State Route 99.
A driver in a medium-duty tow truck reportedly crashed into the back of a Subaru, triggering a chain-reaction crash with a Nissan pickup truck, a Hyundai SUV, and a Mazda SUV, the report said.
Police reported a 50-year-old woman driving the Subaru was unconscious following the collision due to a head injury and she was bleeding.
Paramedics from the Sutter County Fire Department responded and an air ambulance. The medical helicopter reportedly landed on the southbound side of the highway. The woman was taken to Adventist Health and Rideout Hospital for further treatment.
Two others including a 29-year-old pregnant woman and a 43-year-old man were also taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. Others were injured or had complaints of pain, but did not require an ambulance.
Finally, investigators are working on the case and do not suspect drugs and or alcohol were factors, but distracted driving and or speed will likely be considered.
