Suspect Hits, Kills Pedestrian on Highway 101
SAN JOSE, Calif. (May 16, 2023) — A tow truck driver was struck and killed in a San Jose hit-and-run crash Saturday night on Highway 101 after he exited his vehicle.
The fatal collision occurred around 11:47 p.m. on Saturday, May 13th, just north of Tully Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police responded to the northbound 101 and located the 36-year-old man’s body on the roadway.
Investigators determined the tow-truck driver had pulled over on the right shoulder before exiting his truck and walking into traffic lanes to retrieve something, according to The Mercury News.
An oncoming driver in a white Toyota RAV4 struck the man and fled the scene, according to the CHP.
Next, a second vehicle hit the tow-truck driver’s body after the first vehicle. Then, a big-rig truck driver spotted the victim’s body and stopped to block it from being hit again. The motorist waited for police to arrive at the scene.
The identity of the tow truck driver who was killed has not been released at this time.
