Pedestrian Hit by Tow Truck in Crash at Freeway On-ramp
CLAREMONT, Calif. (May 23, 2018) — A man was struck by a tow truck today at an on ramp to the Interstate 10 Freeway at Indian Hill Boulevard, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The collision took place about 1:16 p.m. The victim was unconscious in traffic lanes following the collision at the on ramp to the freeway. The truck driver told police the pedestrian was walking on the right shoulder and then suddenly ran in front of his truck. The truck was stopped with its hazard lights on awaiting the arrival of police about 1:21 p.m.
Police and paramedics with the Los Angles County Fire Department responded to the scene of the incident to investigate what happened and questioned those involved. It’s unknown if there are any witnesses at this time who can confirm the driver’s account of what happened. The emergency vehicles were blocking the on ramp temporarily during the investigation.
The report does not indicate how badly the victim was injured and whether or not anyone was hospitalized.
Claremont Accident Investigation
Police are investigating what the cause of this crash was and ultimately, who is responsible. It’s unknown at this time whether or not the driver’s recollection of what happened is true. At times, a pedestrian may step in front of a vehicle that is speeding or the driver is distracted. Sometimes, both parties involved may share responsibility for the collision. Investigators are going over the evidence and will piece together what happened and assign liability.
If a negligent driver or another entity is at fault for a collision resulting in injuries to you or a loved one, there may be grounds for a personal injury or wrongful death claim. While this is always a personal decision, for many the financial losses associated with a traffic accident are significant. The losses include time lost off work, medical and funeral expenses, loss of consortium and pain and suffering.
