COVINA, California (August 17, 2016) – A 75-year-old blind woman was hospitalized and her dog died after being struck on Stewart Drive Wednesday morning, according to San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
The collision took place at 7:48 a.m.
As per the article, Covina police said the 75-year-old Covina woman was walking with her dog on a sidewalk near a driveway when they were hit by a trash truck that was backing into the driveway at the time.
The visually impaired pedestrian was taken to the hospital to be treated for a broken ankle. Her black Labrador suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver of the trash truck reportedly did not see the victims when the accident occurred.
The incident remains under investigation.
