Travis Romero, 31, Killed in Solo-Car Crash at Bear Valley and Reata
APPLE VALLEY (December 19, 2018) – Two men killed after a traffic collision in the area of Bear Valley and Reata roads early Wednesday have been identified, according to Victor Valley News and The Daily Press.
San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner said the deceased parties, 26-year-old Mateusz Oktaba and 31-year-old Travis Romero, were both residents of Apple Valley.
As per the reports, deputies determined that Oktaba was driving the BMW at a high rate of speed west on Bear Valley Road when he hit the north curb. Romero was riding as a passenger at the time.
Mateusz Oktaba, 26, Dead in Apple Valley Crash
Oktaba lost control and allowed his car to slide sideways and struck the north curb again. The BMW then slammed into a traffic signal light pole at the intersection of Bear Valley and Reata roads.
The vehicle crashed into a second traffic signal light pole before coming to a complete stop. The wreck occurred shortly before 2 a.m. near Jess Ranch Marketplace
Apple Valley Fire Protection District officials along with the paramedics responded and pronounced both Oktaba and Romero dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the westbound lanes of Bear Valley Road between Apple Valley Road and Reata Road were forced to close for hours as a result of the collision. The incident remains under investigation.
