
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2023) — A southbound semi-truck crossed over the center divide into oncoming traffic on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway in San Onofre. The big rig collided with an SUV and possibly two other motorists.
The 4-vehicle collision occurred about 7:21 a.m. on Feb. 23rd, near the San Onofre Border Patrol Station, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The truck jackknifed and crashed with the white Chevrolet Suburban SUV and or a GMC Yukon XL SUV in the northbound Nos. 1, 2 and 3 lanes of the I-5 Freeway. The drivers of a black Kia Sedona and a silver Ford Edge were pulled on the right shoulder, but it’s unknown if they were hit as well. An unknown object from the truck hit two of the vehicles. Also, one of the vehicles overturned after colliding with the semi-truck.
The Camp Pendleton Fire Department responded with paramedics to help those involved in the crash. At least one person was hospitalized with minor injuries, but there were no further details.
Meanwhile, investigators are working on the case to determine what led up to the semi-truck crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway.
