Semi-Truck Jackknifes on 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (August 3, 2022) — A semi-truck jackknifed in a crash Wednesday afternoon on the San Diego (405) Freeway, just north of the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Orange County.
The multi-vehicle crash occurred on the southbound I-405 about 12:38 p.m. on August 3rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials responded to the scene of the fiery crash involving the big rig truck, a black Porsche Cayenne, a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and a fourth vehicle.
The report stated that police issued a SigAlert due to the crash for the HOV and Nos. 1 and 2 lanes of the I-405.
The semi-truck was overturned and became fully engulfed in flames. Also, two other vehicles were also on fire following the crash, the report said.
Both occupants from the Porsche and the Toyota managed to get out of their vehicles. At least three of the vehicles required tow trucks to remove them from the scene.
Meanwhile, the Costa Mesa Fire Department responded with paramedics and reported there are four people with injuries.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the crash.
