Truck, SUV in Major Injury Collision on I-880, Near 16th Avenue, Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif., (August 6, 2026) — A traffic collision involving a semi-truck and a black SUV resulted in major injuries early Thursday morning on Interstate 880 Freeway, just north of 16th Avenue in Oakland.
The California Highway Patrol reported the incident occurred on August 6th at approximately 2:53 a.m. on the northbound lanes of I-880, just south of Oak Street in Oakland. Initial reports indicate that the black SUV collided with the right-hand side wall of the highway, while the semi-truck was involved in the collision near the 16th Street junction.
Authorities noted that lanes 3 and 4 were blocked due to the crash, with some vehicles pulled over to the side. There were reports of a male and female reportedly fleeing the scene from one of the vehicles involved.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and fire department personnel, arrived at the scene shortly after the collision. According to the log, there were significant injuries reported, including major bleeding from a head injury, necessitating immediate medical attention.
The identities of those involved have not yet been disclosed. However, the mother of a young woman reportedly involved in the accident contacted authorities, seeking information about her daughter’s condition.
The Oakland Fire Department and private security were also involved in managing the scene, and a slow traffic break was initiated to facilitate the safe movement of emergency vehicles.
The incident remains under investigation by the CHP, who are requesting any witnesses to come forward with information regarding the events leading up to the collision.
