Major Injury Crash in Avenal on I-5 Freeway
AVENAL, California (Aug. 3, 2022) — A semi-truck and van collided Wednesday morning on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway, just south of Avenal Cutoff Road.
The collision occurred in the southbound lanes of the freeway about 4:48 a.m. on August 3rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Paramedics with Kings County Fire responded to the scene where they located both the large white Ford passenger van and the big rig truck were both on the shoulder of the roadway. The van suffered major front end damage in the collision and required a tow truck.
Meanwhile, at least one person suffered major injuries in the collision. They were taken by ambulance to a hospital for further treatment.
It’s unknown at this time what led up to the traffic accident on the Interstate 5 Freeway.
Meanwhile, police closed down the slow lanes of the freeway due to the crash.
Investigators are piecing together evidence to determine fault for the collision.
