1 Killed, 2 Injured in Truckee Crash on Interstate 80 Near Highway 89
TRUCKEE, CA (September 11, 2021) – A wrong-way crash killed and injured at least two others on the Interstate 80 in Truckee.
The California Highway Patrol dispatch team said the tragic accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck at about 12:36 a.m.
The incident began when a white van was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of the Interstate 80 in Truckee. According to CHP, the wrong-way driver then struck another vehicle.
Wrong-Way Driver Hits Another Car
The two crashed just east of Highway 89. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found at least three people hurt as a result of the collision.
Air ambulances soon took the patients to the Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries. CHP confirmed that one victim later died.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, CHP forced the eastbound lanes of the Interstate 80 to shut down for three hours following the wreck.
The fatal Truckee crash is still under investigation.
