Man, 37, Killed in Tulare Crash at J Street and Cartmill Avenue
TULARE, CA (February 21, 2023) – A DUI crash killed one person at J Street and Cartmill Avenue in the city of Tulare.
According to the ABC 30 News and Your Central Valley, the tragic accident took place on Monday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck on February 20 at about 3:48 p.m.
The incident happened when a car was traveling at a high rate of speed west on Cartmill Avenue, approaching J Street, in Tulare. Police said the vehicle then ran a red traffic signal at the intersection.
Drunk Driver Runs Red Light, Hits Another Car
In the process, the speeding vehicle broadsided another car. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the 37-year-old man driving the victim vehicle dead at the scene.
The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, police determined that the suspect driver was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the other car.
They soon arrested him for DUI and voluntary manslaughter. Officers forced the area of J Street and Cartmill Avenue to shut down for a time following the wreck.
The fatal Tulare crash is still under investigation.
